Florida's "Worst" Large Airport Was Previously Ranked As The Nation's Second "Worst"

If I were to ask you the factors that make an airport a pleasant place to be with a good user experience, I'd suspect that you'd mention factors such as reliability, value, and efficiency.

It turns out that a national publication recently used metrics similar to those mentioned above to measure the "best" and "worst" of the nation's largest airports. Unfortunately, Florida didn't score very well. And the airport identified as Florida's "worst" didn't rank well in another recent survey.

Why Orlando Regional Airport Was Recently Named Florida's "Worst" Airport: In November of 2023, The Wall Street Journal published a list of the "best" large airports in the United States. To make this distinction, The Journal evaluated 30 different metrics concerning reliability, value, and convenience.

In the end, The Journal ended up with a list of 20 airports. Those ranking highest were considered the "best" and those ranking lowest were considered the "worst," according to Business Insider.

How Florida Fared: Florida airports were excluded from the top of the list so they were not among the "best." Instead, the first Florida airport that showed up on the list was Miami International Airport number 14.

Following MIA was Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport at number 16. In last place and therefore considered Florida's "worst" airport was Orlando International Airport.

Another Recent Survey With An Unflattering Listing of Orlando International Airport: Also in mid-November of 2023, the website eGamble looked at delays and cancelations around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Right behind Chicago Midway International Airport was Orlando International Airport, ranking as the number 2 "worst" airport in the country. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport ranked number 3, somewhat mirroring The Wall Street Journal survey.

What Do Users Think Of Orlando International Airport?: Google reviewers give Orlando International Airport 4.1 out of 5 stores. Although some reviews recount negative experiences, many reviewers found it serviceable, efficient, and clean.

Here is a review from a customer named Tom who experienced the airport on Thanksgiving Day:

"It's Thanksgiving day today and the airport could not have been any better! Zero line at check-in, zero line at security. Orlando airport, today I am thankful for you and everyone working today (TSA, airline staff, rental car staff, and everyone behind the scenes) who made my experience today absolutely flawless. Thank you for being great - I cannot wait to return!"

Opposing Opinion: The Wall Street Journal and eGamble are two surveys. But we can look at another for objectivity. Florida Rentals did a similar survey in the summer of 2023 which ranked Florida's airports from best to worst based on criteria such as delays, costs, and cancelations.

In that survey, Orlando International Airport ranked 6th best and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International ranked 5th.
