Expansion Of "Beloved" Convenience Store Into Florida Continues With A New Store and Free Coffee

A decade ago, it might have seemed silly to get excited about the arrival of a convenience store. But back then, convenience stores didn't offer a plethora of high-quality foods and specialty items. And today, they do.

The excitement of convenience stores in Florida has meant that Governor Ron DeSantis handed out food items from a Buc-ee's gas station at a press conference in the spring of 2023.

This article isn't about Buc-ee's, however. It is about another popular gas station that has been called "beloved."

What's The Big Deal About Wawa?: When Wawa broke ground on a Ft. Myers store in 2014, it was the start of an "aggressive expansion," according to News-Press.

At that time, Peter Gilligan, the vice president of real estate for Wawa, indicated that it planned to eventually have 300 stores in Florida, bringing approximately a $1.8 billion investment to Florida's economy.

Inc. has called Wawa "beloved," and it is known for its sandwiches, coffees, salads, fresh grab-and-go meals, and healthy options for those who'd like them.

A Florida Location That Had a Long Wait And Is Offering Free Coffee For A Limited Time: According to Jax Daily Record, plans for a new Jacksonville Wawa on 3561 Spring Park Road began around five years ago. The store, recently opened, is 5,636-square-foot on 1.97 acres and is offering patrons free coffee until December 10th, per First Coast News.

Feedback For A Florida Wawa: As of this writing, there are not any reviews for the Spring Park Road store as it is so new. But there are plenty of Yelp reviews for locations throughout Florida. Here is a Yelp review from a reviewer named Richard writing about a Tampa store on Waters Avenue:

"I would give Wawa 5 stars all day except everyone loves it so much (that) it's always super busy. It gives me anxiety to go there because it's always theme park level crowded. I understand why they are the best gas station in Florida. Everything about the place is top-notch. It is the Publix of gas stations with subs just as good. You can even order their food on Uber Eats now which is life-changing for me because now someone else can fight the crowds for me..."
