A Florida City is Getting a Large, One-Of-A-Kind Costco For A Very Unique Reason

L. Cane

I often write about both Florida and about warehouse clubs like Costco and I find that, for some readers, the two are a winning combination. Many of the articles I've written about Costo receive comments from people wishing their Florida city would get a Costco.

To demonstrate how much excitement some Floridians have about Costco, there is a 3-page conversation about a new Costco in Clermont on a forum for the Villages in August of 2023. That's still a drive, but some in the forum were willing to make it.

One Florida city is arguably fortunate because not only are they getting a new Costco, but the store will be entirely unique to their city for a special reason.

The Unique Upcoming Daytona Beach Costco: According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal reporting in September of 2023, a new 161,774 square foot Costco will be built across from the Daytona International Speedway in the One Daytona shopping center. Note that this is a bit larger than the average Costco, which, according to Forbes is about 146,000 square feet.

To honor the location, the new Costo will include a checkerboard design, unique to the location, that is "a nod" to the history of the Speedway. The Costco is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024 and is expected to employ around 300 people.

OneDaytona President Roxanne Ribacoff told Hometown News Volusia:

“This is the only Costco that has deviated from the exterior storefront.”

Floridian Feedback of Costco: There are no reviews for the OneDaytona Costco as it hasn't opened. But Yelpers reviewing a Costco in Melbourne generally appreciate the cheaper gas, the rotisserie chicken, and the cheaper options for services like eyeglasses and tires that are offered at Costco. However, some did complain about long wait times.

Here is part of what someone named Amy had to say about her experience at the Melbourne Costco:

"What can I say about Costco other than I love it! I am so thankful we finally got one here on the Space Coast!... I love to shop here at least once a month for a large grocery haul for my teenagers. We buy paper products, meat, veggies, fruit, dairy, and lots of snacks. They also have a nice selection of organic foods and seasonal goodies like boba tea for the Lunar New Year! I love the prices in the warehouse..."
