Florida Cities Mentioned in List of Best Summer Travel Destinations of 2022

Although the pandemic has slowed summer travel over the last couple of years, Americans seem more than willing to resume their travel plans this summer. According to the Vacationer, 80% of Americans have plans to travel over the summer of 2022, with over 45% saying that they plan to travel more than once. Many of those surveyed (about 55%) plan to travel domestically.

Determining the Best Reasonably Priced Summer Destinations: Americans are arguably currently dealing with inflation and high fuel prices. So it makes sense that some Americans are looking for bargains when making their travel plans. The website WalletHub wanted to know which U.S. destinations give travelers the "most bang for the buck" so it evaluated 100 U.S. metros according to 43 criteria to come up with a list of the best summer travel destinations for 2022.

What Was the Criteria?: WalletHub's data looked at general affordability as well as the overall costs of travel and accommodations. It also considered convenience, activities, weather, and safety.

How Did Florida Fare?: Florida arguably did well in this list. Looking at the top 20, the metro of Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford came in first place. The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro came in third. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach came in 11th. And the Jacksonville metro area came in 14th. Further down the list, the following metros all made an appearance:

  • Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent,
  • Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville,
  • Cape Coral-Fort Myers,
  • North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton, and
  • Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach.

Most of the Florida destinations earned high marks for the number of activities offered. Florida also earned high marks in the "safety" category. Four of the five "most safe" destinations were from Florida, including Cape Coral, Tampa, Deltona, and North Port.
