L. Cane

U.S. News & World Report is arguably one of the best-known rankers of academic institutions. The site recently released its rankings of the best high schools in the United States for 2022. The state of Florida had one school ranked in the top 15 nationally, the School for Advanced Studies in Miami. State-wide, 11 Florida schools ranked in the top 100 nationally.

Many of the highest-ranking Florida schools were from south Florida. One could argue that this makes sense, as Miami-Dade is the most populated county in the state of Florida. But Hillsborough County isn't very far behind. Hillsborough County is the third most populated county in Florida and the seventh most populated school district in the entire United States.

How Did Hillsborough County Schools Fare in the Rankings of Best High Schools?:

Although no Hillsborough County high school made it onto the top 100 national list, Hillsborough County did have four schools rank in the top 1,000 out of nearly 24,000 public high schools in 50 states. Those schools were:

  1. Plant High School, No. 632
  2. Steinbrenner High School, No. 742
  3. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School, No. 790
  4. Newsome High School, No. 903

Brooks DeBartolo is a charter school, while the other three are traditional high schools.

When looking at rankings of Florida schools only, the four schools mentioned above were all ranked in the top 50. They were ranked as follows:

  1. Plant High School, No. 39
  2. Steinbrenner High School, No. 41
  3. Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School, No. 45
