If you want to enjoy an authentic farm experience with your children, Frying Pan Park in Herndon is your place. Kidwell Farm at the park is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.

I brought a three-year-old there to Kidwell Farm and she loved it. From cows to goats and draft horses, she was enthralled. The farm has chickens, pigs, peacocks, and rabbits too.

They have wagon rides, and tours to experience what farm life was like in the 1930s, The 30-minute wagon rides are $4.50 a person 2 years and older. The wagon goes all around the farm, past the fields, and into the woods and back.

We had fun looking at all the antique farm equipment, including the antique tractors. They have Fordson, John Deere, and Farmall tractors.

The farm has a working cider press building, a dairy, a smokehouse, and a chicken house.

A highlight at Frying Pan Park is the 1920'a Herschell carousel. It costs $3 on weekdays, and $4 on weekends and holidays. Tickets for the carousel and wagon rides are sold online and at the country store. Call to confirm that the carousel and wagon are operating before you arrive. They won't be in operation if it's raining, The number is (703) 437-9101.

The park has a beautiful playground to keep the children entertained. It is located near the carousel and country store.

The store is a delight, selling gifts related to farm life, like equestrian items, farm tools for children, educational books, and puzzles. They sell everything from ice cream to farm-fresh meats and eggs.

There is an equestrian center on-site, with horse show events during the year.

You can reserve a picnic area there for occasions, and there's a visitor center on-site.

We had a wonderful time looking at all the farm animals and enjoying the park. We especially loved the beautiful sunflowers. We will definitely be returning this year.
