Nestled on Washington Street in the town of Mount Holly is Kitchen 87, in my opinion, the best breakfast and lunch spot in the area. It’s my go-to spot if I want a delicious breakfast.
Owned by Melo Smith and her husband Mike, they started the restaurant to bring strangers together for their love of delicious food. As they say on their website, it is a place where strangers become friends and friends become family.
When you enter the place, the servers warmly welcome you and you can feel the small-town vibe. It's a small place with booths and tables. But don't let that fool you. The food is extraordinary.
I brought my son and his family from out of town there, and they fell in love with the place. He was so impressed with the homey atmosphere, and the delicious and creative dishes they prepare. My son couldn't believe there was such a hip breakfast place in the area he grew up. No wonder Kitchen 87 has been rated a 4.9 out of 5 stars on Facebook.
Their menu has many delectable options. From eggs and grits to chili and corn beef, you will find your favorites on the menu. They have breakfast sandwiches and all the lunch favorites.
My personal choice for breakfast or brunch is chicken and waffles. The chicken has a kick, and the waffles with syrup make it an unforgettable combination.
When I go there I always request their freshly made English muffins with my coffee. They are the best I've had anywhere.
My daughter is a huge fan of their shrimp and grits, and other friends love their Huevos Rancheros.
They always have special dishes depending on the time you visit. A favorite is Oreo stuffed French toast. They have crispy chicken and pulled pork and cheddar scallion biscuits.
The servers there are attentive and friendly. Even if you go alone, you feel like you are dining with friends.
One of the things I love about the place is the prices. You can get a full meal with generous portions, and it's affordable.
