Some friends and I checked out Riverview Restaurant and Bar in Burlington recently. I brought them there for their birthdays. One of the special things about this restaurant is that it is located in the historic town of Burlington, right near a beautiful river.

Riverview opened up in 2016 and their executive chef is Carlo Finazzo. Their menu focuses on American, Italian, and seasonal food.

During the pandemic, they are taking sanitation measures very seriously. Staff and guests are temperature checked, and all areas are sanitized and social distancing is in effect.

Although Riverview has a lovely indoor dining area, we chose to dine outside on the patio for our little birthday celebration.

My friend and I ordered a bottle of 2013 Santa Ema Merlot. It had flavors of chile, dark cherry, and plum, with chocolate. We enjoyed it, sitting outside with a light breeze. We felt totally comfortable with no one sitting too close to us, and the river nearby. It was a beautiful romantic setting.

Then we had the arugula and tomato salad, with a light dressing that we both liked.

For our main dish, we ordered the Tuna Tartare, which featured sushi-grade tuna, avocado, jalapeno, sesame, with sriracha mayo. The dish had a delightful presentation and was accompanied by crispy wontons, which was an interesting combination. We both enjoyed it.

Our other friend ordered beer and a pizza, which he loved. We shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert for their birthdays.

We didn’t order any bread with our meal, although I hear their bread is delicious. Friends have also said their scallops are excellent. And my dining companion had been to their rustic happy hour and enjoyed it. She recommended we spend our evening there for our birthday celebration.

The service was about average that evening, but the lovely patio dining outside more than made up for it.

After dinner, we took a leisurely walk to the river and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. It was the perfect end to our evening. We would definitely dine at this restaurant again.

If you are looking for a romantic spot to take a date, Riverview is the place. They are located at 219 High Street in Burlington. Reservations are recommended. I made my reservations through Open Table. They are open Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 3 pm-10 pm, and Sunday from 3 –to 7 pm. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Riverview also offers curbside and delivery dining options. Contact them at 609-614-6624.

They also have event rooms on the premises if you want to book a wedding, birthday, reunion, graduation, or work gathering.

I'm so glad such a beautiful place to eat is nearby. We'll be back.
