Kristina Rowe - Just Me in Big D

Artful and interactive experiences at Galleria Dallas revolve around Girls Scouts, Red Lanterns, and Mount Rushmore--oh my!Galleria Dallas

If it's been a while since the mall was your favorite place to hang out, you're likely to discover some wonderful surprises at Galleria Dallas over the next few weeks. Add Girl Scout cookies to your shopping list, hang out with live bobblehead presidential mascots from Mount Rushmore, preview Dallas Arboretum's upcoming Dallas Blooms and don't forget to look up for the shopping center's best ever Lunar New Year red lantern display.

Partnerships with local organizations and fun pop-ups plus a creative use of art for seasonal celebrations have always been a priority for the shopping center, and these limited-time events and exhibits show that off with the expected level of Dallas style. Here's what you can see and do on a well-timed shop-till-you-drop day.

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger with 150 Red Lanterns

If you're like me, you look forward to the burst of color this annual exhibit brings to gloomy winter months. In past years, red lanterns have hung above the ice rink, but this year over 150 lanterns bring the Lunar New Year's optimism to the entire shopping center.

When: Now through Feb. 28.

Where to Find It: The lantern display is property-wide this year, so you can't miss it.

Observe President's Day in a Monumental Way

If you're longing to see Mount Rushmore, come get a peek at the peak without having to travel or get (too) cold. An immense replica of Mount Rushmore National Memorial sits under a 600-square-foot flag on the ice at the Galleria Ice Skating Center, and that's just the beginning. You might get to peep a buffalo-themed Zamboni too.

During President's Day weekend, you can visit with tourism representatives from South Dakota, take pictures at a mural wall or with roaming Mount Rushmore bobblehead-style mascots, and have a chance to win South Dakota-themed prizes.

“This experience will allow thousands of people in the Dallas area to learn more about South Dakota’s cultural and tourism offerings in a fun and interactive capacity,” James Hagen, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism said in a press release. Galleria Dallas Director of Marketing, Megan Townsend added, “We’ve always been committed to being a place where North Texans come to live, learn and experience and this exhibit fits in with that commitment.”

Get Girl Scout Cookies and Support Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas

The Girl Scouts exhibit showcases local leaders Margie Aguilar, Valerie Freeman, Kala Garner, Hattie Hill, Jin-Ya Huang and Nina Vaca.Galleria Dallas

Galleria Dallas has long been a supporter of Girl Scouts and their initiatives, and this year a new exhibit called "Climb with Courage" shines a spotlight on pioneering North Texas female entrepreneurs and their advice to the next generation. The art and discovery exhibit shares wisdom from Margie Aguilar, Valerie Freeman, Kala Garner, Hattie Hill, Jin-Ya Huang and Nina Vaca, as well as Girl Scout Junior Kaliyah Ruth Mayes.

Your whole family can learn about female leadership and girl power, and enjoy this exhibit and some other promotions to make the experience even sweeter. A social media giveaway (with a prize of a $500 shopping spree and a year's supply of Girl Scout cookies) is running through Feb. 28, encouraging us all to share a post about someone who's inspired us. Visit the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas website for entry details and more information about the featured leaders in the exhibit.

Of course, no one needs incentives to buy Girl Scout cookies, and those will be available at booths in the mall as well. Local troops will staff cookie sales booths on weekends through Feb. 27.

Another way to get the in-demand treats is by trying the Curbside by Elevate service at 19 different Galleria retailers. When you order for curbside pickup at participating stores, you'll get a free box of Girl Scout cookies with your order. The hard-to-find new Adventurefuls flavor will be offered as the free box while supplies last.

Pro Tip: Keep the girl power feeling going with a purchase from ZuZu's TuTus, Mosaic Makers Collective or Old Navy (a leader in size-inclusive shopping.)

When: "Climb with Courage" is on display through Feb. 27. Cookie booth hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Girl Scout cookies are always "while supplies last" so purchase or order yours soon.

Where to Find It: View the exhibit on Level I near the Apple store. Cookies booths will be located in the south node of the Galleria adjacent to Morphe.
