Poppy & Thyme - A Hidden Gem in Menomonee Falls

Kristen Winiarski

Another great little hidden gem in Menomonee Falls is the store Poppy & Thyme located downtown. There is two-hour parking located right in front to make this store easy to access and shop at. This is such a cute little shop that specializes in handmade bath products, yummy treats and gifts that are designed to either pamper yourself or those you love. You can also get their products at Wisconsin Curates Creations inside the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa. This shop is located in downtown Menomonee Falls and has an interesting backstory.

Poppy & Thyme opened in March of 2018 by Layla Obregon. After working in IT for 20 years at Premera Blue Cross in Seattle, she decided to make a change. The hours were long and the work was stressful. It was a very hectic, busy and grueling corporate job. She decided she needed a creative outlet that helped her to get away from the computers that she was around all day. Along with her mother, Kathy Colegrove, Obregon started making soaps and bath bombs as a hobby. Then, she began to sell them online. In 2016, she married and moved to the Milwaukee area. She runs Poppy & Thyme full-time and when the store opened, was still doing IT work on the side.

The store sells handmade soaps, bath bombs, bath crystals and body creams. It also sells products from other companies such as Library of Flowers, TokyoMilk, Sonoma Lavender and The Cottage Greenhouse. They also sell jams, tea, sweets and jellies. It is truly a family business as one of her stepsons sells his homemade brand of candy as well called Jumpee’s, and her other stepson worked part-time at the store.

The feel of the store helps you feel relaxed. Obregon wanted her customers to feel just as she does when she creates her products. She wants it to be a beautiful place to shop with calming scents and relaxing music. It is a place to browse and escape from the stresses of your life.

Poppy & Thyme has an impressive inventory of products. These products include bath bombs, shower bombs, candles, essential oils, natural deodorants, candles, products for foot care, hand and body creams, Hand Sanitizer, Whipped Soap, hand sanitizer, Soap, Soaks, Salves, & Scrubs, Lip Care, Nail Polish, Perfume, Candles, Toilet Bombs, and Scented Sachets.
