An iconic deli in New York state is set to close at the end of the month after serving the community for over seven decades.
Poultry Mart, a deli in Great Neck known for its chicken and roasted ducks, is set to close on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
The deli, located at 33 Middle Neck Road, opened its doors in 1950 and served residents of Great Neck for seventy-two years.
In a recent post on the business's Facebook page, the owner wrote:
Poultry Mart will be closed this Sunday, July 24th, reopening on Monday, July 25th, and our last day open for business will be Saturday, July 30th. Thanks to everyone for your sentiments, words of praise, and all the memories that you have shared with me.
Numerous followers of the page commented that they would miss the deli.
One commenter named Jonathan said:
I grew up eating everything in your store. It was so amazing and I miss it. I’ve taken my kids when we are back in town. Sorry to see you go. Thanks for the great food and service. The staff were always the nicest.
The owner did not publicly state a specific reason why the deli is closing.
The deli was best known for its roasted ducks, turkeys, and chicken. However, the store also sold deli meats, side dishes, and prepared foods.
Many will undoubtedly miss the deli, but its legacy will live on in the memories of those who enjoyed its food.
If you have a chance, be sure to stop into the Poultry Mart one last time before the iconic deli closes its doors for the last time on July 30th.
