A popular restaurant in Nebraska is shutting down after serving the community for over 16 years.
It's always sad to see a long-standing restaurant close its doors, and even more so when it's because of financial struggles brought on by a once-in-a-generation pandemic.
Big Sal's Pizza at 838 N. 27th Stree in Lincoln has been a Nebraska staple for 16 years, but according to reports, it closed its doors for good Sunday, June 26, 2022.
The owners mentioned in a Facebook post that the challenges faced over the past two years have been too difficult to overcome. While they did their best, they couldn't make it over all the hurdles posed by the pandemic and current economic climate.
The pandemic has been tough on businesses all over the world, but restaurants have especially struggled with supply chain issues, food prices, and staff shortages.
Big Sal's Pizza will be missed by many, but the owners say they are grateful for the support they have received from the community. While this is undoubtedly a loss for the city, we're all thankful for the memories and for the delicious pizza we've enjoyed over the years.
Many Nebraska restaurants have closed recently due to economic challenges, so we encourage everyone to support their local businesses. Who knows, you might just be helping to keep them keep the doors open.
While it's heartening to see that many restaurants are still hanging in there, it's clear that the economic challenges posed by the pandemic are far from over. Here's hoping that Big Sal's Pizza is the last casualty of this challenging time
