Amazon announces plans to open multiple "no checkout" grocery stores in New York, now hiring

Kristen Walters

Amazon recently announced plans to open several "Amazon Fresh" grocery stores in New York that feature "frictionless checkout" options for customers with an Amazon account. One location is currently hiring.

A new Amazon Fresh grocery store will be opening soon at 3620 Long Beach Road in Oceanside, New York. While we do not yet have a definite date for the store's grand opening, Amazon has already started hiring for positions at this store location.

Most of the posted positions involved stocking meat, produce, and other products inside the store. The positions range from $16.45 to 17.05 per hour, with some "overnight" positions listed as well.

Amazon will be hosting a "virtual hiring" event on Thursday, May 26, 2022, where you can learn more about the positions that are available at the store and apply for jobs. The event is online, so there's no need to travel or show up in person. The Amazon Fresh virtual event page states that "offers will be made within 30 days."

You can sign up for the virtual hiring event here.

Several sources have also reported that additional Amazon Fresh store locations are in the works for East Setauket and Plainview. However, Amazon has not started hiring for those locations, and no opening dates have been released yet.

One of the novel features of the Amazon Fresh grocery stores is their "frictionless checkout" system. Essentially, there is no checkout line. Instead, Amazon customers pay for their items electronically through their existing Amazon accounts.

I'll follow this story and report back as soon as the official opening dates for the stores are announced.
