Do you have a little engineer who is just nuts about Thomas? This fall you can give him or her a chance to visit their favorite No. 1 engine as Thomas the Tank Engine returns to Boone, Iowa.
All aboard! Thomas the train is hitting the rails and returning to Central Iowa. Do you want to take your favorite Thomas super fan for a special visit? Here’s what to know about A Day Out With Thomas in Boone and how to get tickets.
For over 65 years, Thomas the Tank Engine has left the depot and this Really Useful Engine and his Island of Sodor friends have chugged their way into the hearts of preschoolers and grownups worldwide.
Based on The Railway Series of classic stories authored by a father who loved trains and wanted a shared experience with his son, Thomas & Friends™ is a rite of passage that inspires the imagination while teaching the life lessons of friendship, exploration and cooperation.
Families can have the opportunity to meet Thomas up close and personal and this fall, as the beloved blue engine makes his return to the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and Museum. Come meet Thomas, and experience lots of railway fun at this special event held September 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19.
In addition to Thomas, Sir Topham Hatt will take time away from his busy schedule as Controller of the Railway on the Island of Sodor to meet and take pictures with guests. Be sure to bring your phone or camera since there will be lots of photo opps available and professional photos with Thomas will also be available to purchase.
Are you wondering what all is included in this event, an admission ticket for Day Out With Thomas includes: a ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine, storytelling and video viewing, temporary tattoos of Island of Sodor friends, an Imagination Station with arts & crafts, a trolley ride, museum admission and more.
We’ve attended Day Out With Thomas for several years and the event was always a hit with my kids. The 25 minute train ride and additional activities are lots of fun, and you’ll want to plan for a full afternoon to make sure you have time to do everything.
My kids have always loved having their tickets punched by a real conductor and riding the trolley, where they get to help “fix” things.
To make sure that you have plenty of time to enjoy the event, it is recommended that guests arrive at the event at least one hour before your scheduled departure. Sir Topham Hatt will not allow Thomas to wait for late arrivals.
Thomas The Tank Engine departs every hour on the hour. Keep in mind that activities begin to shut down after the last train of the day departs, so be sure to complete any activities so that you don’t disappoint your little engineers.
