(Forsyth County, GA) Several new businesses announced opening dates or shared exciting news this week. Though Whataburger announced its coming-soon Cumming location first, a second Texas-based restaurant has beaten them to the opening date. Shipley Do-Nuts, a Houston-based gourmet donut maker since the 1930s, opened its first location in Georgia this week at 3225 Keith Bridge Road in Cumming. Oziel “Ozzie” Rodriguez, who also owns Coal Mountain Package Store and Palapas Bar and Grill, is the owner. He plans to open several other locations in the local area.
In addition to “do-nuts,” Shipley also offers coffee and kolaches, which are sweet pastries that were brought to Texas by Czech settlers in the 1800s. Some kolaches may have a sweet filling, but Shipley also offers savory fillings like sausage.
Shipley Do-Nuts is open Monday-Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
New City Center openings and news
After TopKNOTch Boutique and Lily Rose Co. opened last week, there’s more encouraging news for the Cumming City Center. Mother/daughter-owned boutique Pieces and Peaches is officially opening this Saturday, March 25. The soft opening will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The shop’s main offerings will include on-trend women’s clothing and fashion selections.
Lily Rose Co. owner Nancy Rosado also announced that they will be hosting a grand opening event on Saturday, April 15, which will include champagne and grab bags for the store's first 100 customers.
In addition to these new shopping destinations, locals hope some restaurants will open at the City Center too. Juke and Jive Creamery, Vampire Penguin, and Tin Cup Grill have all announced that they are hiring. Wright’s Fish and Chips should be opening soon, but though they don’t have an opening date yet they shared Tuesday that they have leased additional space at the City Center across from their restaurant. The second location will be a traditional British pub called Wright’s on the Green.
“British ex-pats who miss their authentic pub atmosphere will be enjoying imported beer, wine, and whiskeys whilst watching British sports [at] our uniquely yet traditionally decorated establishment in downtown Cumming, Georgia,” Wright’s posted on their social media.
“We plan to host events throughout the year such as the King’s birthday party, typical British afternoon teas, TV coverage of British and American sporting events, royal events, and British TV shows,” they added.
The pub should be open by early summer.
