(Forsyth County, GA) Local shoppers who have been eagerly awaiting the grand opening of the new Lidl at The Shops at Kelly Mill are finally getting some official news from the company about the store’s opening date. Unfortunately, the news might not be what they were hoping to hear.
Chandler Spivey, senior manager in Lidl’s Communications & Public Relations department, confirmed today in an email that the new location will not open until early 2024.
“We expect to open the Cumming location in early 2024,” said Spivey. “Whenever we open a new store in a new community we want to ensure it is ready to go on day one for customers. Our teams are working through finalizing and getting the store ready to go for opening.”
Spivey did not elaborate on specific reasons for the delay. Forsyth County Commissioner Todd Levent previously confirmed that the holdup was not on the County’s end since they issued the building’s Certificate of Occupancy in September 2022. Recently, some residents commenting online have placed the blame on supply chain issues, speculating that Lidl may be forced to wait until their new Georgia distribution center is ready.
Spivey stated that he will share more details as the end of the year approaches and they have more concrete details about the store opening. In the meantime, disappointed customers will have to continue to wait.
“We look forward to serving the community in the future with our fresh, high quality groceries and low prices,” added Spivey.
