(Forsyth County, GA) With the last day of school just around the corner, Forsyth County kids are hearing the siren song of summertime. However, along with those cherished weeks of freedom come childcare challenges for some families and struggles with boredom for others. Fortunately, there is no shortage of summer camp options in Forsyth County. These camps offer many different opportunities for summertime learning, enrichment, social interaction, and – most importantly – lots of fun. Here’s our rundown of some of the top options that still have openings this summer:
1. Forsyth County Parks & Rec Summer Camps: FoCo families don’t have to look further than their own Parks & Rec offerings to find great summer camp options.
“We are proud to offer a wide variety of summer camp programs for the community,” shared Laura Pate, the Deputy Director for Administration and Recreation. “Children can hone a sport, participate in adventure activities, learn something educational or just have fun while making new friends. We offer these programs to enrich children’s lives and also to assist parents with childcare and summer entertainment,” Pate added.
The county offers everything from outdoor adventure camps with rock climbing, hiking, and zip-lining to sports camps where kids can learn about tennis, volleyball, or basketball. Kids may enjoy trying one of the special interest camps with themes including babysitting, bike riding, yoga, and robotics. There are even esports camps for kids who are looking forward to relaxing during the summer with some video games. For parents needing help with childcare, there are also day camps hosted by the Forsyth County Recreation Centers. These tend to fill up quickly, so check the registration website soon to sign up. https://secure.rec1.com/GA/forsyth-county-ga/catalog
2. City of Cumming Summer Camps: The Cumming Recreation & Parks Department is offering several themed day camps for children of all ages and summer classes in art, dance, basketball, gymnastics, and even horseback riding. These camps are open to anyone; you don’t have to be a resident of the city of Cumming to sign up, making them a great option for grandparents or aunts and uncles who may be hosting little ones during the summertime. To register, go online or visit the Cumming Recreation and Parks Department’s main office at 437 Pilgrim Mill Road to sign up in person.
3. Farmer Sue and the Art Barn at Morning Glory Farm: Forsyth County parents who have young kids love Farmer Sue and the Art Barn for birthday parties and field trips. This year kids can also attend week-long Art & Animal Camps at her farm in Canton. There will be opportunities to help out with farm activities like gathering eggs and brushing the animals, and there will be a new art project each day. Each day will conclude with a hayride.
Farmer Sue shared, “We are a working farm that provides an interactive and educational experience for people of all ages! [At this camp, kids]will discover the magic of farm life.”

Each day includes a mandatory water and boat safety instruction session, team games and activities, and lots of opportunities to get out on the lake and enjoy water sports of their choice. There are both day and overnight camp choices. Campers typically must be at least 8 years of age or older to participate, but you can check with staff depending on your child’s experience level.
“We accept campers of all skill levels and ages and teach wake surf, wakeboard, ski and much more behind brand new Supra wake boats,” shared Still.
