SARASOTA, Fla. (March 8, 2022) — Looking to get outside and partake in Sarasota’s cultural scene while enjoying some great New York City-inspired street food?

Now there are some new dining options at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota campus. The refreshed menu at Selby House Café by Michael’s On East coincides with–and reflects–the opening of an immersive exhibition featuring Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith, called “Flowers, Poetry, and Light.” The exhibition is slated through June 26, 2022.

“For this show, Michael’s On East Executive Chef Jamil Pineda has curated a unique menu offering to reflect the essence of both of these artists’ work and to capture the spirit of New York City street food,” said Phil Mancini, co-proprietor of Michael’s On East.

“We’re very excited to continue to partner with Marie Selby Botanical Gardens as their exclusive culinary partner and to contribute further to Sarasota culture and the arts,” said Michael Klauber, co-proprietor of Michael’s On East.

The NYC-themed menu features Falafel Salad, Grilled Cheese with a Roasted Tomato and Basil Bisque, a Chelsea Reuben on Rye, and a New York-style “Everything” Bagel. For dessert, there are jumbo Black-and-White Cookies, suggesting both New York and the black-and-white aesthetic of the exhibition. The café menu also continues to include healthy lunch options (with vegetarian and gluten-free choices), wines, beers, coffees, and other freshly prepared baked goods. At the same time, Michael’s On East has brought back its popular food truck to the Selby Gardens Downtown Sarasota campus. The food truck offers visitors additional options for delicious, made-to-order meals, ranging from upscale fare such as a Jumbo Blue Crab and Maine Lobster Roll to classic Nathan’s Hot Dogs of New York City. The food truck also features Sliders, Falafel Wraps, Spinach and Artichoke Empanadas, and more. Visitors can find the Michael’s On East Food Truck on the Great Lawn by the Selby Café, near the iconic Banyan Trees. Wrought iron tables and chairs by the food truck provide an irresistible and calming respite while discovering all that Selby Gardens has to offer.

Selby House Café is open from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily. The Michael’s On East Food Truck is open from 11:30 am-2:30 pm daily.
