After a very successful fifth year, the Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival will be returning for its sixth year. The festival will take place October 14-16 and will feature some of the best local, regional, and national jazz musicians in the industry. The festival was founded by Mickey James, and he is extremely excited about what is in store for the three-day festival this year when I asked him about it in an interview.
The first Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival took place in 2016 on Carver Street. Over the years great musicians such as Leroy Harper Jr., Marcus Anderson, T-Ray, Daniel D, Nicci Canada, Phil Denny, Oracle Blue, Chocolate Chip & Company, Jazmin Ghent, and so many others have graced the stage at this festival. This year will be no different! Let's take a look at who will be performing this year!
Phil Denny, a saxophonist, will be the headliner at the festival on Friday, October 14, 2022. Denny is a two-time #1 Billboard recording artist and has performed on some of the biggest stages across the country! He is known for his impressive artistry, presence, and passion combined with a unique ability to connect with people on and off the stage, according to his website.
Dee Lucas, a saxophonist, will be the headliner at the festival on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Lucas was a runner-up in the 2007 Capital Jazz Festival Competition and has performed with a plethora of world-class artists such as Boney James, Norman Brown, Peter White, Nick Colionne, Peabo Bryson, The Manhattans, and many others, according to his website. Lucas is also one of the most sought-after performers in the nation!
Lastly, Adam Hawley, a guitarist, will be the headliner at the festival on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Hawley has nine #1 hits and performs 50+ times per year. Hawley was originally signed to Maurice White's (founder and lead singer of Earth, Wind, & Fire) label, Kalimba Music, and released two albums with that label - "Double Vision" and "Just the Beginning". Both of those albums yielded six #1 hits, a rare accomplishment for any new artist, according to his website.
Other artists performing are Marcus Anderson, Jeanette Harris, Terence Young, Jeff DiMaio, Chocolate Chip & Company, and many others! The event is free and plenty of food and arts and crafts vendors will be on site. The event is free, although organizers will be accepting donations. The event will take place at 1420 Carver Street in Myrtle Beach, SC. It is a rain or shine event, bring your lawn chairs.
