On Thursday, Governor Whitmer announced the MI Shot To Win Sweepstakes! The state is offering up to $5 million in cash prizes for any vaccinated people who enter. There are 32 cash prizes and nine scholarship offers for kids ages 12-17.

At first, I got bummed when I read the announcement. I didn't think I'd be eligible. I got my vaccine in the spring. I thought I wouldn't qualify for the sweepstakes. Thankfully, I'm wrong. Anyone who had a vaccine can register to win the sweepstakes! I can keep fantasizing about paying off my college debt and more!

I wasted no time in registering for the sweepstakes. Am I confident I'll win? Not really. My chances of winning aren't too high. However, I'd rather say I tried than say, "I wanted to, but..."

You can register for the sweepstakes in two ways

The easiest way for any Michigander to register for the contest is to go on the MI Shot to Win website and answer some basic questions about yourself. You need your name, birthday, address, and date of your first COVID vaccine.

Do you want to register your grandma, but she doesn't have internet or an email? Don't worry! You can also call the MI Shot To Win Sweepstakes Hotline! The phone number is also on the website! The hotline takes calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Weekend callers can try any time between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

If you haven't had your shot yet, you can schedule your shot on the website. But be careful! The different drawings have various end dates, so you need to make sure you're getting your shot as soon as possible!

What can you win?

The grand prize is $2 million from the state. One lucky winner has until July 30th to get one dose of the COVID vaccine. If you don't have your vaccine yet, get your first dose before July 30th.

Next, there is the $1 million prize. Entrants need to get registered before July 10th to get the award. You also need your first dose before July 10th. This drawing happens on July 11th.

All through July, there will be one $50,000 drawing. The deadline to get into the first drawing is July 5th. Get your first dose before July 5th to qualify!

Any kid 12-17 years old can have their parents enter them for a chance to win $55,000 in college scholarships! The state will hand out nine of them to nine lucky kids. Parents need to register their children to enter. The drawing will happen on August 4th.

Anyone entering the sweepstakes has to reside in Michigan. You can enter one time only with your vaccination records.

What are you waiting for? Get your shot and register!

I don't think there's a person out there who couldn't use an extra $50,000 for something. All you have to do is show proof you live in Michigan and have at least your first dose! And then those fantasies of world travel and paying off debts can turn into a reality!

As I mentioned above, you can go on the MI Shot to Win website to register your vaccine or check your local pharmacy to schedule an appointment or a walk-in.

Nearly 62% of all Michiganders 16 and older received their first COVID dose. We're so close to reaching the 70% goal. The vaccines are safe and effective. And you might win a nice chunk of change if you do your part to help get us out of the pandemic! What are you waiting for? Schedule your appointment and register for the sweepstakes today!
