(Forsyth County, GA) The Cumming City Council approved a developer to conduct a hotel feasibility study on the Cumming Center during a work session meeting on Tuesday, June 6.
City Administrator Phil Higgins said they have been approached in the past by other developers interested in building a hotel who have asked if the city had already completed a hotel feasibility study, which has not been done.
He said the developer, who was not identified at the meeting, agreed to fund and complete its own feasibility study in exchange for the right of first refusal to develop a hotel at the City Center. The study would examine the size and type of hotel the City Center could accommodate as well as its economic sustainability.
If a hotel is determined to be feasible for the area, the city can continue with plans to build one with the developer but is not required to.
However, if the city decides to use a different developer, they must refund the first developer $20,000 for doing the study.
The developer has 90 days to complete the hotel feasibility study.
