(Forsyth County, GA) The City of Cumming is inviting the public to its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Friday, May 26 at the Veterans War Memorial in Cumming.
The ceremony will feature several speakers, a memorial wreath presentation, an Avenue of Flags Dedication and a white dove release.
After a welcome by Cumming Mayor Troy Brumbalow, Master of Ceremonies Colonel (retired) Dennis T. Brown will give the opening remarks. Brown served for 30 years in the National Guard/U.S. Army and is the former Forsyth County commissioner for District 2.
This year’s keynote speaker is Chaplain Leland Jones, who is the chaplain recruiter for the Georgia Army National Guard’s HHC 265TH at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta and has been the Senior Pastor of Greater New Light Ministry in Atlanta since 2003. He was also the senior pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Tate, GA from 1991 to 2003.
Jones served abroad in Kuwait and Djibouti during his military career and is currently on the National Advisory Board of the National Institutes of Health, the Morehouse College School of Medicine community advisory board, the military recruitment grassroots board, Concerned Southwest Clergy and the Regional Council of Churches of Atlanta.
Several flags will be added to the Avenue of Flags Dedication, which are donated by family members of deceased veterans in their honor.

- Patricia Ruth Edwards, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, April 20, 1933 - November 18, 2022
- David J Watson, SR, US Army, December 3, 1939 - November 10, 2022
- Paula A. Scholfield, US Coast Guard, January 12, 1941 - November 16, 2022
- Michael J.. Kotler, US Navy, Dec 29, 1944 - Feb 16, 2023
The ceremony will be completed with a white dove release provided by Georgia Doves.
The Cumming Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans War Memorial at 301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Cumming next to the Cumming Police Department. Parking is available at the Cumming Fairgrounds and the Castleberry Road Parking Deck. The city asks attendees to leave parking spots at the Cumming Police Department open for those with mobility issues.
