(Forsyth County, GA) The Forsyth County and City of Cumming 2023 Water Quality Reports are now available for public viewing.

Most of the city and county’s water is drawn from Lake Lanier. Every year more than 150,000 tests are conducted by the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Forsyth County and the City of Cumming to monitor tap water for harmful minerals, organisms and organic substances. This also includes testing for over 100 types of contaminants like pesticides, nitrates, bacteria and metals.

Water Quality Reports compare these testing results standards set by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. Both reports met all the health standards required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Georgia drinking health standards for 2022.

Preventing water pollution is important for maintaining clean drinking water. The City of Cumming’s Water Quality Report emphasizes proper use and disposal of the following items; fertilizer, paint, gasoline, motor oil, cleaners, solvents, garbage, pet waste, metal waste, pesticides and herbicides.

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful holds several events throughout the year for citizens to properly dispose of these items. More information can be found at keepforsythcountybeautiful.com/recycling-disposal.

County residents will receive a copy of the Forsyth County report in their mailed county water and sewer bills. Those with paperless billing will receive a link to the report in their monthly invoice.

Printed copies of the county report can be requested by calling 770-781-2160 or can be picked up at the Department of Water & Sewer office in the County Administration Building at 110 East Main Street, Suite 150. Residents with questions can also call 770-781-2160 or visit the Water & Sewer Department website at forsythco.com/Departments-Office/Water-Sewer.

The City of Cumming report can be viewed here or at cummingutilities.com.

FoCo Sheriff's Office arrests 3 suspected international crime ring members

(Forsyth County, GA) The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) arrested three suspects believed to be involved in an international theft ring. Maykel Hernandez, Giorge Navea and Javier Guerra-Morales were arrested in connection to several burglaries. They are all being charged with burglary - smash and grab and criminal damage to property. "This is another excellent example of good police work and even better detective work by our Property Crimes Unit,” said Sheriff Ron Freeman. “We are steadfast in our pursuit of these South American Theft Groups and these criminals are quickly learning, South America is where they should have stayed. If they are on U.S. soil, FCSO will spare no expense or effort and will recognize no boundary in pursuing and arresting them. Endanger our citizens and you will quickly find out who FCSO and Forsyth County are." Public Information Officer Stacie Miller said deputies were called to Simon D. Jewelers on Peachtree Parkway last December after its alarm went off and found signs of forced entry through the roof. Miller said nothing was taken due to the quick response of the deputies and the business’ security system. The FCSO believed the attempted burglary was the work of a theft group from South America or similar groups who were involved in a string of burglaries targeting homes and businesses around metro Atlanta and in over a dozen other states. The three suspects in custody are also suspects in burglaries and attempted burglaries in Marietta, Canton, Alpharetta and Knoxville, TN.
