(Forsyth County, GA) The Cumming City Council passed an ordinance to ensure that businesses will be able to serve alcohol until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day even if it falls on a weekday.

During a City Council Work Session meeting on March 7, an amendment to the city’s alcohol ordinance was introduced after it was pointed out that this year’s New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day in 2024 would fall on a Sunday and a Monday.

Currently, Cumming businesses only allow the following times for alcohol sales:

  • Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

In order to prevent businesses from losing profit during the holiday, the proposed amendment would allow alcohol to be served from midnight until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day, even if it falls on a weekday.

The City Council approved the ordinance during the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 21.

All Cumming City Council meetings can be watched on the City’s YouTube channel.
