Some Like It Hot: The Eternal Flame at Gideon's Bakehouse

Justin Cox

Gideon's Bakehouse is known for unique cookie creations inspired by a 123-year-old cookbook. The half-pound mounds of flavor-filled sweetness are not only delicious but a sight to behold.

Gideon's success in their original East End Market location propelled them into national magazines. Awards flowed, including "best place in the world to get a cookie" by the Boston Globe. Their success prompted a second location at Disney Springs, where opening weekend wait times topped seven hours. For cookies. However, the wait is worth the experience as each Gideon's cookie lives up to the hype.

Customers are greeted with a standard menu of cookie concoctions upon arrival in both locations. These include chocolate chip, pistachio, triple chocolate, cookies and cream, and peanut butter crunch. Outside the standard fare, Gideon's offers a limited edition cookie each month. Baked in small batches, limited-edition cookies run the risk of selling out daily and are restricted to two per person.

February's exclusive cookie is The Eternal Flame. This cookie brings the heat by taking the triple chocolate base and adding ancho chilis, cyanine pepper, and a cinnamon spice blend. To top off this sweet heat masterpiece, the cookie adds chocolate-covered cherries to the chocolate chip mixture. For those looking for even more heat, 2021 brings an option for double the heat, marked by red glitter. Fans of Mexican chocolate, spice, or those unafraid to have dessert leaving their mouth on fire will want to try this fantastic cookie. Just make sure you have a glass of milk at the ready.

Gideon's Bakehouse is found in East End Market and Disney Springs, and The Eternal Flame is available daily through February.
