Covid keeps the whole US busy and scares many people. But not only a global pandemic can scare someone, but also the number of crimes happening in the neighborhood frightens people.
It's also not an untold secret that many US states are safer than others. But what about Arkansas? I really wanted to find out how safe Arkansas is and so, therefore, I dug in deep into the latest FBI crime report. Following you will see data that the FBI collected through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. Their data provides crime data for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and their estimated populations, the counties included in each MSA, and the 12-month crime counts for principal cities in MSAs.
For my research I solely focus on the MASs, the total population, and the following crime rates:
- Total Number of Violent Crimes, consisting of Aggravated assault, Robbery, Rape, Murder, and nonnegligent manslaughter.
- Total Number of Property Crimes, consisting of Burglary, Larceny-theft, Motor vehicle theft.
You will find all those rates as per 100,000 inhabitants so that they are easy to compare. You will also see that sometimes specific property crime rates are missing. If this is the case, they haven't been reported in the original statistic.
