New Mexico attracts many filmmakers worldwide, which results in many award-winning movies filmed in the beautiful state!

Located in the Southwest United States, New Mexico's capital is Santa Fe; it was founded in 1610 as Nuevo México (itself an independent province of Spain in 1598). Albuquerque is its largest city, as well as its surrounding metropolitan area. It shares the Four Corners region of the Western U.S. with Utah, Colorado, and Arizona and is part of the Southern Rocky Mountains. New Mexico borders Texas to the east-southeast, Oklahoma to the northeast, and Chihuahua and Sonora to the southwest. In the 2020 U.S. Census, the population of New Mexico was 2,120,220, making it the 36th-largest state by population. It has 121,590 sq mi (314,900 km2), making it the fifth-largest state and the sixth least densely populated. Geographically, northern and eastern New Mexico exhibit a cold, alpine climate, while western and southern New Mexico features warmer, dry weather. Its basin climate is influenced by the Rio Grande River, which flows north to south in the middle of the state, providing a riparian environment that supports a gallery forest that maintains its inner forest.

Here are 3 of the greatest movies filmed in New Mexico:

Thor (2011)

Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) homeland and the frost giants are at war. Thor (Tom Hiddleston) tries to take the throne, but Loki fights for it. His father, Odin (Sir Anthony Hopkins), castrates him from Asgard and sends him to Midgard (Earth) for his arrogance and disobedience in battle. He loses the hammer's power until it is returned to him on Earth, and he pulls it from the ground. He falls in love with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as he struggles for freedom on Earth. Thor then takes on his evil brother Loki and a giant robotic destroyer that attacks a town.

Appaloosa (2008)

Appaloosa talks about the arrival of a young widow, complicated by two friends hired to police a small town ruled by a rancher. Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen star in this drama as itinerant lawmen Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch in the New Mexico Territory of 1882. Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons), a newly-arrived rancher with money and a gang of thugs, disrupts commerce and kills three local law enforcement officers, so the city fathers hire them. Despite Cole and Hitch's efforts to arrest Bragg and bring him to trial, hanging him proves to be a challenge. Then a widow comes to town, Allison French (Renée Zellweger), pretty, refined, and good-natured. They fell hard for each other, and it seems to be mutual, but there may be more to Allison than meets the eye. Can friendship and skill with a gun defeat a villain and green-eyed jealousy?
