Sacramento is known for being an iconic location for relaxation. With its outstanding natural beauty and impressive landmarks, rivers, and historical attraction, this place attracts several movie directors. In fact, some famous movies are filmed in this wonderful city and here are three of them:

Lady Bird (2017)

One of the most awaited movies of 2017, Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf in this coming-of-age movie directed by Greta Gerwig. Set in the year 2002, the movie has amazing cinematography, a compelling storyline, and realistic characters that everyone can relate to.

The movie revolves around the life of Christine McPherson, played by Saoirse Ronan, as she struggles to find adventure, opportunity, and sophistication in Sacramento. Christine or “Lady Bird” hates most aspects of her life and dreams of leaving her hometown to pursue her dreams of attending a New York City college. However, due to her family’s financial struggles and her mother’s overprotective nature, Lady Bird finds herself in blooming teenage sexuality, numerous college applications, and possible first love. The movie ends when Lady Bird successfully gets into NY school albeit her mother’s disapproval.

Lady Bird is a journey to self-discovery, new experiences, and relationships.

Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)

Directed by Rob Marshall, Memoirs of a Geisha was released in 2005 and grossed more than $160 million worldwide. Set in the 1920s, the movie tells the life of Nitta Sayuri, played by Suzuka Ohgo, and how she became one of the most famous geishas in Japan.

It starts when Chiyo lives in a poor fishing village on the Japan coast. Chiyo and her older sister are sent to a geisha district called Gion. However, her sister is transported elsewhere while she stays in Nitta Okiya where Hatsumomo lives. Hatsumomo is a resident geisha that makes Chiyo’s lives miserable by treating her as a slave. Her life soon turned upside down when she met The Chairman. After realizing that she can do better, she then decides to break free from her hardship and tries her best to study the life of geisha.

With the help of The Chairman, Chiyo graduates from the geisha school and is taken under the wing of Mameha, the most popular geisha in the Gion district. Chiyo then changed her name to Nitta Sayuri.

American Beauty (1999)

American Beauty is a one-of-a-kind movie with its vivid imagery and symbolism. Known as the best movie of 1999, this family drama movie is directed by Sam Mendes, starring Hollywood’s famous Kevin Spacey and Annette Benning. American Beauty is a story of the Burnham family who looks perfect on the outside but is actually falling apart. Lester Burnham, the father, falls into a mid-life crisis and hopeless depression when he fails to be a professional, husband, and father.

Lester’s daughter, Janie, is a typical wallflower who hates her parents and tries to stay away from home as much as possible. The story takes turn when sexually frustrated Lester sees his daughter’s best friend, Angela, and immediately feels an infatuation towards her. As he starts to feel re-energized by her infatuation with Angela, a new family moves next door. Janie met the next-door’s son, Ricky, and a friendship between the two blossomed.

As Lester’s journey comes to an end, he looks back at his life and finally finds the beauty in it.
