Stamford history

Stamford was called Rippowam by its first inhabitants, the Siwanoy Native American people. Later it was changed after a town in Lincolnshire, England. It was incorporated as a city in 1893. One interesting historical fact about this city is the Salem Witch trial, which took place in 1692. At the beginning of the 19th century, New Yorkers started building their vacation homes here and in the 1960s and 1970s a huge development started.
