With fall now in full swing, it’s time to get out and create some intentional fun and memories. With this in mind, below are three fun tourist attractions in Champaign-Urbana worth visiting this weekend whether you are out on a solo day trip or with friends or families.
Sipyard, 204 W Main St, Urbana, IL
The Sipyard is one of the most unique places that I have experienced. They are the only beer garden in central Illinois that operates out of a shipping container which is located in the middle of downtown Urbana.
The space is shared with an amazing outdoor graffiti gallery which makes for an amazing photoshoot location during the day.
In the evening on weekends, however, you can enjoy good beer specials, live music, and events. Their season runs for six or seven months usually starting in April running all the way to early November.
William M. Staerkel Planetarium, 2400 W Bradley Ave, Champaign
For somewhere more family friendly, consider the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College in Champaign. It is the second largest planetarium in the state with the largest being the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.
This is a great family oriented and affordable experience. Public shows are held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30 pm and 8 pm. All tickets are currently sold at the door approximately 30 minutes prior to the shows.
- Adults: $6
- Children (over 2), Seniors, and Students: $5
Shows this weekend include Fall Prairie Skies, Birth of Planet Earth, and Did an Asteroid Really Kill the Dinosaur. Visit the Events Calendar for details on the shows.
Curtis Orchard & Pumpkin Patch, 3902 S Duncan Rd, Champaign
Another local tourist attraction is Curtis Orchard & Pumpkin Patch which is a family owned farm located at 3902 S Duncan Road in Champaign. It is now open for the season through December 23rd, making now the perfect time to enjoy some fall fun on Central Illinois’ entertainment farm. A map of the farm can be found here.
Curtis Orchard has been a favorite of ours for years, whether we were going on our own as a family or visiting as a part of a school trip. The farm is always a delightful and fun experience. You can definitely expect to create and make memories from your visit.
While these are just three local attractions, there are several more.
Don’t forget that World Tourism Day is coming up on September 27th. Where would you suggest touring?
