Every year, On the LAST SATURDAY of April, trout anglers in Northern California anxious await the opening for trout fishing in the Sierra streams. This year is no exception! Anglers from all over congregated to hunt for that trophy trout in the streams of Northern California. The destination is one of the most picturesque in the world. Hence, even if no fish were caught, anglers can enjoy the day with family and friends. JU Nation was definitely on board with the scenery. American Shad are super fun to catch! They are in the Sacramento River! But this does not mean that they are easy to catch. In this episode, I am with Captain Kirk Westervelt of YouTube fame. He was very generous in taking me on his North River 22-foot boat! We fished the outgoing tide between 8 AM until 4 PM. There were more than a hundred fish caught during that time frame. Unfortunately, we were not in that category this time. However, it is a tremendous blessing to be along side someone who enjoys fishing as much as I do. PROVEN Rig to catch AMERICAN SHAD from a boat | SACRAMENTO RIVER FISHING How To
I was blessed to received some pre-tied rigs for catching the American Shad in the Sacramento River from a boat. The developer allowed me to share this setup with JU Nation. In this episode, I am fishing with Captain Eric aka Bare Foot Fishing. We fished along side JU Nation's Captain Chris and crew. American Shad fishing through the Sacramento River is still in the early stages. However, at the outgoing tide, and in the correct seam where the fish travel, an angler can easily catch many shad!!! Sturgeon Fishing in Suisun Slough - Braved 20 MPH Wind to get a Keeper!
There are many ways to catch a keeper white sturgeon in Suisun Slough, CA. There are many baits that have been known to entice a white sturgeon to bite; however, we prefer using grass shrimp when targeting white sturgeon at this location. There were no grass shrimp nearby. Thus, we traveled an hour out of the way to get grass shrimp all the way in Pittsburg, CA. The weather forecast called for windy conditions up to 20 MPH wind! We braved the bad weather; and we were rewarded with a keeper!

Every year around late March / early April American shad enter the river systems through Sacramento, CA, on the journey to their spawning grounds. Unlike the salmon, which die after spawning, shad can make their trips back to the ocean around late July / early August to live and return again to repeat the cycle until they are captured and / or died in the process. Encountered with a sea lion & bent hook, this video’s got it all…. Hope you enjoy it! Currently, we don’t have a fish finder on our boat. On this fishing trip with "da Captain," I learned that one of the best indicator of American shad being active is the presence of sea lions. Be careful, you can lose your fish or your rigs if you don't use a rod holder! A sea lion enjoyed my catch and saved me a head for left over. Judging from the head, it was a trophy size shad! I fished with Captain Dave Hunter aka "Phat Dog" in 2020 for salmon twice in the Sacramento River; we were skunk both trips. However, I believe Phat Dog to be a very good fisherman and teacher. Thus, I was elated that he invited me out once again. This time, we are to target landlocked king salmon from Folsom Lake. He introduced me to a locally manufactured "Hot Ticket Lure." Lo and behold, this short fishing trip turned out to be one of my most memorable: I landed my first landlocked King!

For three anglers, 1/2 pound of grass shrimp is plenty for a day's worth of sturgeon fishing. We were blessed with so many take-downs. Fishing for Giant White Sturgeon in Northern California
Most anglers go their entire lives chasing these exotic river monsters white sturgeon and never landed one. I have been exceptionable blessed this year hunting these big game fish, sometimes referred to as dinos or dinosaurs! These huge fish are known for their power and the razor sharp scutes, i.e., bony plates topped with sharp ridges on their sides and back. This fishing trip, we fished all day from sunrise to nearly sunset. As we were about to call it a day... bam! Watch and find out...

Monday, March 22, 2021, Phat Dog and I tried to hunt for Landlocked #KingSalmon in #LakeBerryessa. We worked hard all day and managed to get two hookups. However, we loss one close to the boat. We did land a nice #LandlockedSalmon before the end of the #fishing trip. I thought it was a king salmon because it was too big to be a #KokaneeSalmon! As it turned out, that was my very first kokanee salmon, a hefty 15 incher, as chrome as can be!!! God is good! Thank you all for watching.

Phenomenal Trout Fishing Day at Collins Lake, CA
Once again, it was an incredible day of fishing with PhatDogFishing. It was my first time fishing at beautiful Collins Lake, CA. For the first hour of trolling using 1-inch Gulp Berkley worms, we did not get any bites. However, upon switching to top water trolling Rapalas at between 100 - 120 feet back, putting Hot Ticket Lures using down riggers to ten feet depth at 65 feet back, and trolling at 2.7 mph, we were having a fantastic trout fishing day. First Sturgeon Fishing Trip in 2021 Turned Out to be Epic!
First #fishing trip of 2021 for JU, da Captain, and #ConnectedFishing. We decided to go #DinoHunting in #SuisunSlough. We used all kinds of different baits, but the most successful was #grassshrimp! We pretty much used the same setups as our previous 9 #sturgeon fishing trips in Suisun Slough last year. It was an epic fishing day in terms of getting lots of take downs! At the end of the day, we boated three sturgeons. A boat near us landed a SEVEN footer!!! Thank you for joining us.
