Palo Duro Canyon State Park, TX | Amarillo Blizzard of 2021 and hiking the Lighthouse Trail

Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a MUST SEE. When we decided to go, I did not know what to expect, but it has become one of my favorite places I have visited. Palo Duro Canyon, or the "Grand Canyon of Texas" is the second largest canyon United States. It is a canyon system of Caprock Escarpment and located in the Texas Panhandle about 25 miles from downtown Amarillo and 14 miles from Canyon. It was really a sharp contrast to the flat open farm lands we saw on the drive over from those towns. There are a number of Hiking trails at Palo Duro, but we decided to go with the most "famous" - The Lighthouse Trail. This trail is about 5.7 miles long and rated as "moderate". Throughout this trail we got to see the beautiful layers and colors of the Canyon walls. This was the first stop on our roadtrip and it was an adventure, to say the least.
