Brian Ramirez and Tyler Jim have been chosen to play in the Pawnee Bill All-Star game, this Friday at Pawnee’s Black Bear Stadium. The annual game features area players who completed their senior season in 2022. Participants were chosen by their coaches for being great teammates on and off the field.

Karey Jones, coach of the 2022 Tigers, had high praise for both of this year’s Pawnee participants.

“Brian stepped in because of an injury last year, and really helped our team,” Jones said. He’s a great kid, and he worked very hard.

Ramirez played both offensive and defensive line for the Black Bears, and he is scheduled to play the same positions in this weekend’s game.

According to Karey Jones, coach of the Tigers, Tyler Jim, who played cornerback for the Black Bears will not be taking part in this year’s game because of commitments out of state.

“Tyler is a good person and had a nice senior year,” Jones said.

The week leading up to the game will be busy for the players. Players will check in on Tuesday with practice scheduled each day from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Each evening at 7:30 p.m. the players will attend a banquet. Tuesday evening’s meal will be sponsored by First National Bank and Trust. On Wednesday, by Ranch Burger and Click’s Steakhouse will provide the food, and on Thursday evening, the Rodeo Committee will feed the team.

All players will also be presented with both a game jersey and a commemorative t-shirt.

Fans can nominate defensive and offensive MVPs for both teams in the snack bar for one dollar during the game. An offensive and defensive MVP from each team will be presented a trophy following the contest.

Pawnee Head Coach Karey Jones along with the Pawnee Quarterback Club are responsible for organizing the event. In addition to his responsibilities of preparing for the 2023 season, organizers have reached out to area teams to get participants, selected both coaching staffs, and planned every detail of the week-long event.

“This is a great way for kids to showcases their talents one last time. Most of them will not be playing ball at the next level, and one last time they can experience the camaraderie of being on the field with their team,” Jones said.

The first Pawnee Bill All-Star game was in 2001. Because of the pandemic and coaching changes, however, the game has only been played once since 2020.

Player introductions will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
