Marshmallow Fluff. Yes, it is Healthier than Jelly/Jam

Jordan Hinsch

Whether you're an adult or a kid you've loved Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches at one point in your life (barring any serious allergies). The alternative to a classic PB&J sandwich is a Fluffernutter.

What's a Fluffernutter?

A Fluffernutter is comprised of 3 ingredients:

  1. Bread
  2. Peanut Butter
  3. Marshmallow Fluff

I probably had a total of 4 Fluffernutters until the age of 18. It was always seen as a treat or a snack so my parents never had Marshmallow Fluff around the house. There is a vast pre-conceived notion that Fluffernutters are very unhealthy and are far worse than PB&J. It wasn't until last year at the tender age of 34 that I finally compared the nutrition fact labels.

Why is Fluff healthier than Jelly?

Numbers speak for themselves. The figures below compare the nutrition fact labels of Marshmallow Fluff and Tiptree Preserves (the best-selling jelly on Amazon and known as one of the healthiest). Most parents will give their kids this garbage, which is even worse. Jelly enthusiasts will argue that the sugar comes from the fruit, which is a false claim. The sugar statistics shown below represent 100% added sugars. The #1 ingredient in jelly is sugar.

Tiptree Sweet Tip Raspberry Preserves

I'm not saying you should eat Marshmallows instead of real fruit. I'd lose that argument 10 out of 10 times. However, there is no debating the facts shown above. It also tastes better! Put a real apple on the sandwich between the Peanut Butter and the Fluff and it's game over! Thank me later :).
