This is a sad story for any animal lovers out there, but I feel it's important to tell as it will shed light on the fact that animals are being neglected and abused all the time. In North Kingston, Rhode Island, a couple were arrested on Monday.
Police arrested Ciara Cunningham, 27, and Salvatore Edward Carfora, 34, police arrested the pair when they were alerted to an animal hoarding situation. The animals on their property were in bad shape, being neglected and abused. The Rhode Island SPCA President, Kezirian, referred to this as a "difficult hoarding situation." He spoke up about the condition of the horse, saying it was in " horrible condition." The horse was beyond help and had to be euthanized. The many, many other animals are at various shelters as one shelter alone was not enough to take in all the animals. They are doing all they can to nurse these animals back to health.
The following were rescued from their farm;
10 dogs, 9 goats, 14 horses and ponies, dozens of ducks and chickens, all in bad shape. They will be brought back to health and adopted out to caring and responsible homes. In the meantime, I'm sure those animals are just glad to be fed and watered regularly as their most basic needs were not being met.
This couple will have to pay fines, and will be due back in court on July 19. I hope they have learned their lesson.
Animals do not have a voice so we need to speak up for them so always be on the lookout for something like this and call the authorities!
