Mets salvage a series split with San Diego, Red Sox sweep Yankees

The New York Mets (29-23) bounced back in a huge way after dropping the first two games of their set against the Padres in hard-fought losses. They sent Jacob deGrom to the hill in the third game against arguably the Padres' best pitcher this year, Joe Musgrove. The Mets would ultimately pull away thanks to solo home runs from Francisco Lindor and Jose Peraza, the former putting together a seven-game hit streak as of late. deGrom would fire seven shutout innings in the victory. Marcus Stroman was dominant in the finale, throwing six and two-thirds innings without allowing an earned run. He was aided by home runs from Dom Smith and James McCann, both of whom are heating up after slow starts. The Mets get an off day today and then head to Camden Yards for a two-game set with the Orioles.
