Wikipedia features a comprehensive and well-attributed overview of the IHOP entity: IHOP (acronym for International House of Pancakes) is an American multinational pancake house restaurant chain that specializes in American breakfast foods. It is owned by Dine Brands Global—a company formed after IHOP's purchase of Applebee's, with 99% of the restaurants run by independent franchisees.

According to ScrapeHero.com: There are 1,693 IHOP restaurants in the United States as of May 10, 2023. The state with the most number of IHOP locations in the US is California, with 225 restaurants, which is about 13% of all IHOP restaurants in the US.

Now comes word that a longstanding location has unexpectedly and quietly closed.

Let us explore further.

IHOP, 2023

According to an article from 101TheEagle.com, entitled “Quincy, Illinois IHOP Appears to be Secretly Closed For Good,” an unexpected sign outside of the restaurant stated the site’s fate. The sign reads (unedited):“Unfortunately our local ihop has closed its doors. We will miss all of our regular guests and hope you can forgive us. We will miss all of you. Sincerely, Larry McDonald Owner.”

As excerpted from the article: According to a sign on the door, the rumors are true. The Quincy, Illinois IHOP has closed… Brozya Locksmich reached out to us through our Facebook page and said that "I had no warning that I lost my job. Just a random text. It kinda affected my rent...stability. I am one of the current employees that unfortunately found himself without a job without notice…”

As a press time, the Quincy IHOP restaurant remains on the company’s website as open, likely the result of an as-yet updated page.
