Introduction

I write extensively about the Walmart superchain for NewsBreak. Of late, most of my articles have detailed the company’s 2023 spate of permanent store closures, as well as those of three pick-up and delivery locations.

This piece regards the indefinite closure of a prime Louisiana Walmart location due to suspected arson, an incident that occurred at 8:15 PM yesterday, June 4th.

Walmart, 2023

According to a report from WWLTV.com, entitled “Covington Walmart Could Be Closed For Weeks After Fire Started; Suspects Sought,” investigators are saying the blaze started in the auto department and two young men, caught on video, are now being sought as suspected arsonists.

As excerpted from the report: The Covington Walmart Supercenter on Highway 190 will be closed until further notice after firefighters responded to a fire in the auto department Sunday night and police are searching for two suspects. The fire started around 8:15 p.m. at the location in the 800 block of North Highway 190 in Covington. The State Fire Marshal said that there were about 200 people in the store when the fire broke out, but no injuries were reported.

It has been said the store can be closed for a month, if not longer.

The report went on to state the store’s entire inventory suffered smoke damage but water damage was exclusive to the automotive department, the latter credited to sprinklers that went off shortly after the conflagration started.

Conclusion

This is a rapidly developing story. In the event of further updates, inclusive of suspect progress and store reopening, I will share them here on NewsBreak.
