Introduction
I write extensively about the Walmart superchain for NewsBreak. Of late, most of my articles have detailed the company’s 2023 spate of permanent store closures, as well as those of three pick-up and delivery locations. This piece will be no different, as it regards the closure of a Kansas location and a note regarding last week’s closure of its pharmacy.
Walmart, 2023
According to a report from BestLifeOnline.com, entitled “Grocery Chains, Including Walmart, Are Closing Locations, Starting Friday,” the pharmacy of the latest location announced as permanently closing itself shuttered nearly one week ago.
As excerpted from the report, regarding Walmart’s Overland Park, Kansas location: The location's pharmacy is closing on May 26, while the store—which is a Walmart Neighborhood Market—is closing to the public on June 2, Best Life previously reported.
An official company statement was granted to the outlet: "We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Overland Park location at 10303 Metcalf," Lauren Willis, global communications director for Walmart Corporate Affairs, previously told Best Life. "We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and on walmart.com."
Per a subsequent May 29th report from The-Sun.com regarding the closing store itself, as a Neighborhood Market Walmart iteration it is smaller than the usual company stores and has been primarily focused on pharmacy and grocery services.
As excerpted from this report: The store, which is just outside of Kansas City, Missouri, opened back in 2003... The entire store will completely close on June 2. Residents of Overland Park have another Walmart Neighborhood Market and a Walmart Supercenter both located nearby.
