Introduction
I write extensively about the Costco superchain for NewsBreak. In recent weeks most of my articles have detailed a spate of upcoming national store openings, which has distinguished the company from others of comparable size of late, many of which have been closing large numbers of individual locations.
Per ScrapeHero.com: There are 585 Costco retail stores in the United States as of March 07, 2023. The state with the most number of Costco locations in the US is California, with 133 retail stores, which is about 23% of all Costco retail stores in the US.
Today, a new Texas location has opened, the first in a county that has recently attained a population threshold of 50,000.
Let us explore further.
Costco, 2023
According to a March 30th report from KUT.org, entitled “First Costco in Hays County Opens its Doors to Kyle Shoppers, the new location’s opening has been long-awaited by area residents.
As excerpted from the report: The first Costco in Hays County opened Thursday morning off I-35 in Kyle. The wholesale chain has several locations in Austin and San Antonio, but the new store will give easy access to those living in between. Mayor Travis Mitchell said the city has been trying to get a Costco in town for nearly a decade. “It just so happened that we finally got over the 50,000 population threshold,” he said. “I think that was the magic number Costco was looking at before they would commit to us.”
The Kyle Costco is reportedly a major location, and not a smaller entity.
