Introduction

I write extensively about the Walmart superchain for NewsBreak. Of late, most of my articles have detailed the company’s recent spate of store closures.

This article will be no different.

Now comes word that yet another Walmart location — the fourth announced this week — will soon be permanently closing.

Let us explore further.

Walmart, 2023

According to a report from SeattleTimes.com, entitled “Walmart Closing an Everett Store That Locals Say Was Plagued by Theft,” the Washington location has had a history of reported thefts.

As excerpted from the report: “We’ve seen people come out with TVs, big boxes of who knows what, a vacuum one time,” said Hannah Barnett, who works at the Bud Hut marijuana shop across state Highway 99 from the Walmart, which the company says will close April 21.

Residents have told the media crime has been an ongoing concern at the location. The company’s official statement on the matter, however, is effectively identical to those pertaining to all other recently announced store closures.

The report went on to state: Walmart said in a statement Friday the store, at 11400 Highway 99, is being shut down after the retailer determined it “hasn’t performed as well as we hoped.” The retailer said the store’s 198 employees can transfer to other Walmart locations, including a Supercenter at 1605 S.E. Everett Mall Way and five other stores in Snohomish County. Walmart has 65 locations in Washington.

In-store sales are expected to be announced consistently until closing. The company has issued no specific comment regarding crime as a factor, though locals and analysts, as a targeted Google search will verify, largely believe it to have been an influence.

Conclusion

The continual closings of U.S. Walmart locations is a developing story. In the event of pertinent updates to this matter, inclusive of progress and official announcements of milestone dates, I will share them here on NewsBreak.

Thank you for reading.
