Introduction

I write extensively about the Subway sandwich chain for NewsBreak. In recent months, most of my articles have detailed individual store closures, or explorations of the company itself seeking potential buyers.

Per ScrapeHero.com: There are 20,643 Subway stores in the United States as of February 27, 2023. The state with the most number of Subway locations in the U.S. is California, with 2,015 stores, which is about 10% of all Subway stores in the U.S.

It should be noted that though these numbers are high, the chain has been experiencing a substantial decline in terms of locations in recent years. See my NewsBreak article here for further information.

Now comes word that yet another longstanding individual location is permanently closing, this one in the state of New York.

Let us explore further.

Subway, 2023

According to a report from WNFB.com, entitled “Another Binghamton Subway Restaurant Preparing to Close,” this particular location is a neighborhood stalwart.

As excerpted from the report: A restaurant that's been a fixture in downtown Binghamton is about to shut down. People familiar with the situation say the Subway shop at 35 Court Street is expected to close by the end of this month. The restaurant has operated at that site for the past three decades. The owner of the franchise did not return calls for comment this week but customers were being told that the restaurant was planning to close on March 28.

The Subway location occupies a storefront of the Court Street building, per the report.
