Introduction

I have written extensively about the Golden Corral restaurant chain for NewsBreak. As excerpted from September 11th’s “Update: Plans For Golden Corral Closings in 2022,” which in part discussed the matter of temporary closures: Though I have discussed in my recent articles closures of individual locations related to franchisee bankruptcies and location underperformance, Golden Corral tends not to announce its shutterings — either temporary or permanent — far in advance. The company, though, remains the most financially successful buffet chain in the country. Current or recent closings, with few exceptions, are primarily temporary and for remodeling purposes.

It has recently been announced that two high-profile reopenings of temporarily-closed locations are presently engaged.

Let us explore.

Golden Corral, 2022

A September 22 article from KKTV.com, entitled “Colorado Springs Golden Coral Set to Reopen After Pandemic Devastated the Buffet Business,” reported: KKTV 11 News partner The Gazette is reporting Golden Corral Buffet & Grill is set to reopen in mid-October. 11 News confirmed the news with the general manager of the location on Thursday. The restaurant is located on the east side of the city near Powers and Palmer Park Boulevards at 1970 Waynoka Road. The pandemic and supply-chain issued devastated the business. While an exact to reopen isn’t in stone, the general manager is hoping to have doors open on Oct. 17.

Further, Ohio’s September 20 The Scioto Post has reported on the reopening of its popular Chillicothe location, which had been closed since September 6: Updates include a new self-serve drink location, a new fireplace that you can sit around, updated lighting, and food stations. No worries, the restaurant still offers your favorites.

Other locations previously set for remodel are also expected to reopen, though no further announcements have yet been made.

For perspective, my earlier article, “Multiple Golden Corral Restaurants Temporarily Closing For Several Months With No Notice,” shared the following information: Regarding the recent and pending national closings, per a recent piece in BND.com, “This Alton Buffet Closed With No Notice, But Don’t Worry. They’ll Be Back Soon,” a simple explanation is in the offing: While there’s currently no clear reason given for the sudden closure, Lance Trenary, Golden Corral president and CEO, said in a June podcast with Sam Oches of Nation’s Restaurant News that multiple locations are currently undergoing a remodeling and re-imaging process and will reopen between now and the end of the year.

The restaurant location referenced is in Illinois, and as stated is also set to reopen.

Conclusion

Golden Corral remains the most financially successful of all U.S. buffet chains, most of which permanently shuttered during the height of the pandemic.

In the event of further reopenings, or closings, I will report them here on NewsBreak.

Thank you for reading.
