Joe Mertens

Disney recently teased a bunch of new content ranging from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more. The announcement came on the second anniversary of Disney's streaming service Disney Plus, which is now being dubbed "Disney Plus Day." They showcased all of the upcoming shows and movies coming to the streaming service. There's a lot of things to break down, so let's get into it.

Marvel's upcoming slate of showsCosmic Book News

First, let's look at what they showed off for Marvel. We got new teasers for the show "Moon Knight" as well as "She-Hulk" and "Ms. Marvel." It's officially been announced that Marvel is working on a TV spin-off for Agatha Harkness, the popular villain from "WandaVision." Fans are excited to see a new animated X-Men series, one that follows the timeline of the original 1990's show. "Spider-Man: Freshman Year" will be an animated prequel series that chronicles Peter Parker's journey to becoming Spiderman. "Secret Invasion" will involve Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury trying to take down a faction of shape-shifting aliens who have been invading Earth for years. "Marvel Zombies" will follow a plotline from Season 1 of the "What If...?" animated series. While "Echo" will follow a new character that is set to appear in the "Hawkeye" show that releases later this month.

"Moon Knight" will feature Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac as a complex vigilante who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. "She-Hulk" will include Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth returning as Hulk and Abomination while introducing Jennifer Walters, a.k.a. She-Hulk. "Ms. Marvel" is about 16-year-old Kamala Khan, a girl who's a huge fan of Captain Marvel. Kamala struggles to find her place in the world until she gets super-powers of her own. "I Am Groot" is described as a series of original shorts that explore Baby Groots' early days in space. And finally, "Ironheart" will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Tony Stark. Most of these shows are lined up for a 2022 release, but some may take longer.

Also released was a photo of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy returning as the Sanderson sisters in "Hocus Pocus 2" which will premiere in the fall of 2022 on Disney Plus.

Some other things that Disney announced to be in the works include a "Cheaper by the Dozen" reboot, a new "The Spiderwick Chronicles" series, a live-action "Pinocchio" film with Tom Hanks, "Cars on the Road" featuring Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy returning as Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, and for National Geographic, there's "Limitless with Chris Hemsworth" and "Welcome to Earth" with Will Smith. You can expect all of those things to come to the streaming service at some point in 2022, barring any delays.

Obviously, it's a lot to take in, but fans of the streaming service should certainly be happy. Disney definitely has a lot of content coming out and it'll be exciting to watch it unfold. With all of this new content, Disney hopes to bring in more subscribers. In total, Disney has 118 million subscribers and hopes to hit 230-260 million by 2024 says Disney CEO Bob Chapek. If they keep delivering quality content at a fast pace, there's no doubt they'll get there.
