Florida cities have seen an astonishing rise in violent crime lately. Florida City is the most dangerous city in Florida in 2022.
When we think of crime taking place in Florida cities, a few of the big names usually come to mind first. Tampa, Miami, Orlando, and Jacksonville all roll off the tongue naturally when we're asked to guess the most dangerous city in Florida.
And to some degree, this is true. The years 2020 and 2021 saw an incredible surge in crime all across America. Year-over-year, from 2019 to 2020, homicides rose by 30% across America, according to data from the FBI. And some cities were particularly hard hit. Portland, Oregon was a city hit particularly hard by the crime wave. They experienced an incredible 83% upsurge in homicides for the same year.
The major cities in Florida that are national household names have all witnessed a noticeable proliferation in crime as well. Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, and St. Petersburg, all made the list of cities that saw the most significant upticks in violent crime in 2021.
Topping the list of Florida cities undergoing a rise in crime is Miami, a city that people across the nation eye as a potential hotspot to move to or visit. And it's not hard to see why. It has a beachfront location, nestled right on the coast with easy access to the transparent waters of the Caribbean, and possible celebrity sightings on South Beach are an everyday occurrence.
The high-end clubs and restaurants are the envy of people all over the country and an abundance of YouTube videos, thanks to the city's abundance of content creators, makes people who experience life in cold climates salivate as they scrape the snow from their windshields each morning.
But with that comes crime. And both Miami and its neighbor far to the south in Miami-Dade County, Florida City, are undergoing a crime problem that authorities may struggle to address. While Miami Beach was ranked the sixth most dangerous city in Florida, Florida city took the spot at the top of the list, coming in at number 1.
Other lists have Miami Beach scoring a bit lower in terms of violent crime, but still, Florida City remains number one. A quick glance at a chart of the crime per capita will show you just how dangerous of a place Florida City truly can be.
