R&T’s Dinky Diner is a total loss after a fire occurred on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, according to the Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Fire Department.
A news release from the Fire Department reported that a fire broke out at the diner around 5:56 p.m. Smoke was billowing from the diner, so fire crews responded immediately and found “heavy smoke showing from the rear of the building,” the release says.
The diner wrote on its Facebook page: "My heart is broken. Not just for the loss of our business, but for all that it stands for. We've worked to make R&T's Dinky Diner a second home for our customers. Our motto is 'where good friends gather' and we honestly mean it. Our staff is our family, and we are so concerned about them, as well. We are working to make sure they survive and thrive. The next few days will surely be a whirlwind as we gather information and see what the future holds for us."
The Rhinelander Fire Department “was able to initiate an aggressive fire attack to stop the extension fo fire into neighboring occupancies,” the news release says.
It says that the restaurant was closed when the fire broke out and an adjacent apartment complex was evacuated, with all of the residents in it accounted for to the Rhinelander Fire or Police Departments.
Pine Lake and Pelican Fire Rescue assisted in combating the fire.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire and no medical care was requested, according to the Fire Department’s news release. However, six people were temporarily displaced “due to power and gas being turned off to the units,” and the Red Cross was assisting those people in getting temporary shelter, the release says.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the news release from the Rhinelander Fire Department.
The Fire Department wrote that the diner “is considered a total loss.”
