Fine Dining In Akron Never Tasted So Good

Jake Wells

Want some fine dining in Akron? Look no further! Here are the three best restaurants to enjoy in Rubber City.

Sérénité Restaurant

Sérénité Restaurant was established in 2018 and is steeped in tradition and care for the community. Restaurateur Brandon E. Chrostowski offers a unique experience with seasonal, classic French cuisine in the midst of Medina's Historic District. The restaurant has a unique mission; to eat well and do good. The mission of Sérénité Restaurant & Culinary Institute is to instill leadership skills in men and women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction through an education in the culinary arts. As far as the menu goes, you'll find frog legs, scallops, braised beef short ribs and much, much more. For dessert you can even enjoy some delicious beignets!

I am really happy that this restaurant popped up on the list for places in Medina. I had not known they opened a few years ago. I've had very good dinners at their sister restaurant Edwin's in Shaker Heights. So I understood the concept, and their commitment to elevating both food and service. The primary parts of each dish that we ordered was excellent. My partner had duck breast, and I had scallops. Both were very good. Scallops were tender with a bit of snap to the edges and not too salty. The service was lovely, attentive and friendly. Kim K.

Northside Speakeasy

The Northside Speakeasy is a sophisticated social lounge located in Akron, OH. Whisking patrons
back to the 1920s, this Prohibition-era craft cocktail bar was recently built in the heart of the Arts
and Entertainment District. The focus here is on gourmet cocktails, not so much food. But it's such an experience coming here that I had to include it on the list. If you come here just one time, you'll have an amazing experience.

Cool bar that is fun just getting in. I like bars of this style. Northside Speakeasy is hard to find if you've never been there. Getting in is a game. The drinks make it worth going to. Finding the entrance is part of the fun. It looks like a newsstand. The door gives you clues on where to grab it though. Once inside you get to sit at the small bar. This place is always crowded because there's not much room. Only drinks are served here. The French 75 sounded good, and it was one of the cheapest priced. It's $10, while most drinks here cost more. Me and my female friend each got one. We agreed this was a good drink, full of lemony flavor but not tart. Steve A.

Downtown 140

Downtown 140 provides mouth-watering food paired with an award-winning wine list. You'll also find yourself in a warm environment that makes guests feel right at home. There are red velvet sofas, stone walls, and brick pillars. There are also black pipes line the ceiling with recessed lighting in between. It's industrial meets cozy. As far as the food goes, you have to try the escargot! I've thought about how I want to be buried with it...or buried in it? One day? I know that every time I eat it, I feel like I can die happy. This is not an exaggeration. Cutting into the flaky puff pastry is like exfoliating angel skin.

Downtown 140 exceeded all of my expectations. Went after a friend recommended it and let me tell you, it was probably the best meal I've had in the last year. Our waitress Kim was SO SWEET and made the evening that much better. The drinks were great, the character and atmosphere of the restaurant is so charming and beautiful. We will definitely be back!!!!
