Father's Day is here and you want something fun to do this weekend with Dad. I've got some good news for you: there are some fun activities you can do right here in town. And two of them are even totally free. You can't beat that right?

Enjoy A Picnic At The F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm

If you've never heard of it, the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm is in Akron by the Valley. The Nature Realm features fanastic hiking trails, picnic tables, scenic views, ponds and even some wild life. There is also an herb and rock garden with some beautiful fountains. You can pack a lunch at home or pick up some carryout at a local restaurant in West Akron and bring it to the park for a picnic. Bring your camera and capture those memories. The weather in Akron is supposed to be great on Father's Day, so get outside and enjoy it.

Stroll On The Towpath Trail

I must confess I just recently learned about this gem. The Towpath Trail follows the historic route of the Ohio Canal and the Erie Canal. You can also bike or hike the Towpath Trail. It's important to note that the trail is open 24 hours, and features multiple access points. The trail is also wheelchair and stroller accessible, so everyone can join you on the trail. If you'd like to look at planning your trip, here's a link that has a map of the entire Towpath Trail. You might even want to consider having a picnic here too. Again, the trail is totally free to use.

Visit The Akron Zoo

If you haven't been to the Akron Zoo in a while, you're in for a serious surprise. The Akron Zoo is really nice because it’s small enough to see the whole thing in a reasonable amount of time, but the zoo is also large enough to have some really cool exhibits. The Akron Zoo has a perfect mix of activities for young children, and up-close animal encounters. There is a carousel, a train ride (that gives you a better view of the lion exhibit), and a petting zoo (which includes some pretty entertaining goats). One of the best parts of the zoo is the otter slide. They literally have a clear slide that runs right through the otter exhibit, where the otters swim around the slide just beyond the glass. Kids young and old are sure to love it!

Here are the prices for the zoo: Adults: $13 Senior Citizens (ages 62+): $11 Children (ages 2-14): $10 Children under two are free. Parking is $3 per vehicle if you purchase parking online. If you want a great value, look into the family membership as it pays for itself after two visits to the zoo and is only $85 a year. (What a great Father's Day gift the whole family can enjoy.) Here is a link to the Akron Zoo's website.
