Holiday Market Hopping: the Best in Local Christmas Markets

Getting Cozy for the Holidayspexels.com

With the holidays coming up and the days getting shorter, we're all looking to get a little Christmasy!! We want warm drinks and fuzzy sweaters, wandering through booths, searching for the perfect gifts for the people in our lives. Lucky for us, Portland does not disappoint with its selection of Christmas markets, with new events going on every week in December. So without further ado, I present to you the most fun and interesting picks for Christmas markets this week!

Nordic Inspired Christmas Markethttps://everout.com

First on our list is the Christmas Pig Market! Located at the historic Norse Hall on December 11th, this Scandinavian-themed fair is fun for the whole family! You'll find work by amazing Nordic-inspired local artists, delicious food and drinks, as well as festive Jul time music! Bring the kids by the photo booth and craft table and see the Portland Lucia court. Wondering what the Lucia court is? Me too! Turns out it's a Scandanavian tradition of crowning a Queen of light that's been carried on in Portland since 1956. She wears candles on her head!

See the court in full costume from 2-4 pm.

The market features vendors and craftsmen for all your holiday shopping needs, including but not limited to Fern and Fjord, a vintage vendor of Scandinavian decor, Norge Familie, a Nisse doll creator, and Solfiskur, a maker of Icelandic jewelry. For a full list of craft and food vendors, check out the Pig Market Facebook page!

How Bazaar by Fused Creativehttps://fusedcreativepdx.com/current-theme

Next, we have How Bazaar by Fuzed Creative on December 9th from 6-9. This unique, super fun, and socially conscious event requires a donation of food or warm clothes for the local houseless as an admission fee. Filled with local art and craftsmen, How Bazaar boasts of drag performances, live paintings, and live music! This market is sure to be a blast.

How Bazaar takes place in the Jupiter Next hotel and Hey Love PDX, an amazing in-house vegan restaurant, will be available for all your food and drink orders. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. Cash is needed to tip performers and for select craft purchases, so be sure to hit the ATM before you go!

Last on our Christmas market list for the week is the Crafty Wonderland Holiday Art + Craft Market at the Oregon convention center. Certainly the largest event on our list, this craft fair features over 230 artists, designers, and crafters, making it the perfect place to support local artists. Come find one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list!

The main market is on Saturday and Sunday, December 11th-12th from 10 am-6 pm. Entry is 4$. They're also selling tickets to a first-pick pre-show party on Friday from 5-9 pm. For 23$ you get entrance to the pre-show and a free drink of your choice from the bar!

If you know of any great Christmas events happening in the area, drop them in the comments!
