Three great drive-in cinemas in Houston

Jessica Yang

HOUSTON, TX — If the idea of watching movies at home is starting to bore you, maybe it’s time to spend the night with friends at these four drive-in cinemas in Houston!

  • Moonstruck Drive-In Cinema
100 Bringhurst Street, Houston, TX 77020
Tickets are $30 for up to 6 people per car.

Moonstruck is Houston’s first and only permanent drive-in movie theater, also a part of the brand-new East River development east of Downtown on the Northern banks of Buffalo Bayou. The cinema is a partnership between outdoor movie company Blue Moon Cinema and Showboat Drive-In in Hockley, Texas.

There are two locations, East River Houston and COTA Austin. Check out their screening fixtures in here. They also serve a selection of food trucks on Saturdays. Concessions and alcoholic drinks are provided by a nearby bar, The New Potato.

  • Market Square Park
301 Milam St, Houston, TX 77002
    Free entry!

Although it’s not technically a drive-in, the biweekly summer movie nights at Market Square Park are one of Houston’s oldest outdoor film traditions that you shouldn’t miss. The cinema mostly shows old Hollywood classics.

Everyone is allowed to bring blankets and lawn chairs to maximize their comfy seats! Food is available from nearby restaurants like Niko Nikos and Frank’s Pizza, or you can bring your own.

  • Rooftop Cinema Club
1700 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, Texas 77056

Started at Sawyer Yards, Rooftop Cinema Club now has two locations — Navigation and Post Oak Boulevard. Currently, both locations are closed until further notice but stay tuned for updates on their website.

With its comfortable yet adjustable deckchairs and blankets, you will be provided headphones to live the movie moments to the most!

You can enjoy plenty of food such as popcorn, sodas, and candy-like Hot Tamales and Reeses Pieces, and a full menu of Good Dog Houston as well as craft cocktails, beer and wine.
